From dawn to dusk, the chronicle of an ideal day on the finest beach of the French Riviera.
7am — the morning swim
Before the beach clubs, before the rows of parasols, Pampelonne belongs to those who rise early. The water is calm, almost warm, and the beach stretches for four and a half kilometres of pale sand without a soul in sight. The sand still holds the cool of the night, and only a few footprints betray the rare early risers.
From our villa in Ramatuelle, the beach is just five minutes away. The path descends through the umbrella pines, the cicadas begin their concert and the scent of resin mingles with the salt air. A first swim, alone facing the horizon: already a luxury the Tropezian summer reserves for those who beat the crowd.
10am — the Ramatuelle market
Back to the village for the market. The stalls overflow with beefsteak tomatoes, white peaches, fresh goat cheeses and those black Provençal olives that have no equivalent anywhere else. You taste before buying, chat with the growers, fill your basket with purple figs and basil.
This simple, sensory moment says a great deal about the local art of living: take your time, choose the finest produce, anticipate lunch. The concierge can deliver everything to the villa, but wandering the market yourself is part of the pleasure.
1pm — lunch on the terrace
The private chef booked through our concierge prepares lunch on the villa terrace: sea bass ceviche with citrus, market vegetable tian, chilled rosé from Domaine Minuty. You eat barefoot, facing the sea, unhurried. The meal stretches out, punctuated by happy silences and the chime of glasses.
It is one of the most underrated pleasures of a stay in Saint-Tropez: dining at home, with exceptional cuisine, rather than chasing a table.
4pm — the beach club
The afternoon belongs to Club 55. Our concierge reserved the best table, the one in the shade of the fig tree, facing the sea. We order the salade niçoise, the tarte tropézienne and a bottle of well-chilled rosé. All around, the hushed ballet of the waiters and the quiet murmur of conversation make up the soundtrack of summer.
For those who prefer privacy, the other end of Pampelonne, towards the wild point, offers unspoilt coves where the dunes have not changed in fifty years.
8pm — the sunset
Back at the villa for sunset from the infinity pool. The sky turns from pink to mauve, the sea darkens, the first lights of Saint-Tropez glow in the distance. Dinner will be served at 9pm under the plane trees, in that evening softness only a Mediterranean summer can offer.
A perfect day, to be repeated endlessly. To extend the experience, discover a slow summer in Ramatuelle or let us guide you to rent the ideal villa with a pool.
